Graphic Designer Intern

Role Description

The University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum (ANGMM) is seeking a media and graphic design intern to provide graphic design and media support. This position will assist directly with museum text and label creation for displays. The media and graphic design student  intern will work closely with the entire ANGMM team to create and manage visual assets. Experience with Mac computers and Adobe Creative Suite software is a must. Position will require working to expert understanding of Adobe In-Design.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create museum text and label and creation in In-Design

  • Assisting with wide-format printing

  • Complete graphic design projects such as flyers, digital graphics, full color print graphics, print ads, signage images and other special projects as needed under the direction of members of the ANGMM team.

  • Call local vendors in relation to graphic print materials

  • Help proof design projects, prep files for print and outsource to vendors.

  • Participate in maintaining a digital asset library

  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned

Schedule is flexible.

 

Preferred qualifications: Experience with wide-format printing.

 

Museum Reference Library Intern 

Role Description

The University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum (ANGMM) is seeking a self-motivated student to help manage the museum’s reference library and community lab space. This position will be a key component engaging UArizona personnel (staff, faculty, students) and the general public with non-display reference collection items and test equipment. The student will gain valuable experiences using library resources, developing learning tools aimed at the Tucson Community in mineralogy, mining, gemology, fossils, and cultural items. They may also get experience in user experience testing and planning for events (lectures, webinars, workshops and more) for the public at the museum.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Archiving, organizing and cataloguing reference library material

  • Basic computer skills, including a familiarity with Microsoft Office applications 

  • Signing out reference materials and monitoring visitors on-site

  • Help with scheduling visitors to come in and test materials (minerals, gemstones, fossils, etc.) within museum’s community lab

  • Able to interact well with other students and local community

  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned

Preferred qualifications: Experience working with library materials. Experience working with archiving and categorizing literature or collections. 

 

Media & Content Creation Student Intern

Role Description

The University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum (ANGMM) is seeking a student to help with the museum’s social media and marketing platforms. The student will gain valuable experience with original content creation, digital storytelling, and digital audience data collecting. They may also get experience in event marketing, communications, fundraising efforts, and more. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and creating content for the museum’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc) 

  • Assist with photo, video and multimedia content

  • Draft and write text for posts, museum ads and other digital assets 

  • Monitor and report trends of digital audience data 

  • Assist team with brainstorming social campaign & strategy 

  • Creating promotional items for events; flyers, posters, etc. using Adobe Creative Suite

  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications: Experience  with photo and video equipment and editing. Must have experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Word. Understanding of social media platforms. 

 

Guest Services Student Intern

Role Description

The University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum (ANGMM) is seeking a professional, and positive student to help run the museum’s front desk guest services. This position will be a key component engaging museum visitor that will include UArizona personnel (staff, faculty, students), the local Tucson community, out-of-town travelers, and the general public. The student must have excellent customer service skills, high level of professionalism and must be punctual. The student will gain valuable experiences interacting with museum visitors, educating the public about the They may also get experience in user experience testing and planning for events (lectures, webinars, workshops and more) for when the public at the museum.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the museum front desk by answering phones, managing the calendar, answering emails, greeting, welcoming, and directing guests

  • Arrive on time for work shift

  • Provide high level of customer service to museum visitors

  • Complete transactions for visitors through POS System (Clover Station), cash and legal tender handling

  • Assist visitors with general questions related to the museum and region (historic Pima County Courthouse)

  • Give guided tours to visitors (including K-12 school groups, and senior group tours)

  • Assist with end of day visitor and financial reports

  • Assist with special programming (special events, lectures, workshops, etc.)

  • Help with scheduling local docents

  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned

Museum Collections Student Intern

Role Description

The University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum (ANGMM) is seeking a student to help with the museum collection and database. The student will gain valuable experiences handling museum materials (such as minerals, gemstones, fossils, artifacts, fossils, and cultural artifacts), They may also get experience in user experience testing and planning for events (lectures, webinars, workshops and more) for the public at the museum.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in preservation and conservation efforts of collection materials

  • Assisting with the archiving, organizing, and cataloguing reference museum collection materials (data entry)

  • Handling of minerals, gemstones, fossils, artifacts, fossils, and cultural artifacts

  • Basic computer skills, including a familiarity with Microsoft Office applications 

  • Input information and complete database entries

  • Help with incoming museum loan and donations

  • Packaging and placement of non-display collection materials

  • Assisting and guiding local museum volunteers with collection materials

  • Help with coordinating local museum volunteer scheduling

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with fragile materials (like fossil, minerals, and gemstone handling). Experience with database entries. Experience working with gemology and mineralogy equipment (Raman Spectrometers, Electron Microprobe, Single Crystal Diffractometer, and Powder Diffractometer). Schedule is flexible.
